The Alliance Foundation grants annual scholarships to women to attend local colleges and universities. We believe that education provides a pathway for women to become economically self-sufficient.

Each year we offer scholarships to students who attend the Women's College of the University of Denver, Metropolitan State College, and the University of Colorado at Denver.

More women are entering college than ever before, but many face huge obstacles. Often, women must work to support themselves and their families while attending college. A scholarship can make a significant difference in helping such women graduate by easing their need to work or providing additional financial support.

Sherrie Alston, Women's College at the University of Denver

Sherrie is a senior majoring in Business Administration.  The Foundation scholarship has been “a lifesaver” for Sherrie. With the scholarship money, she has been able to take more classes so she can graduate sooner. It also has helped enormously with the cost of books. Sherrie says, “I am most appreciative of the recognition this scholarship gives me. The Alliance has helped me understand I am someone worthy of support. This is the first time I've been helped by anyone outside of my family. I know many need this money so I feel very special that I was chosen. I want to thank the Alliance for giving me a means to better myself and help me on my way.”

Skye Sant - University of Colorado at Denver

Skye is a senior majoring in digital design in the Schools of Arts and Media.  "The scholarship has been invaluable. I don't think I could do this without help. It was such a relief to get this money and be able to keep going.”  Skye hopes that Alliance members realize just how much these scholarships facilitate success. They make the difference between getting an education and not being able to get through it. “I so appreciate the money and am proud I am able to study what I love. It is vital to have the combined power of women to create change in the lives of people like myself. Everyone needs a boost sometimes in life. Women especially need to work together to help and mentor each other.”

Carol Lathrop, Senior at Metropolitan State College

Carol Lathrop is a Certified Meeting Professional (CMP) with more than 20 years of meeting and event planning experience. As an independent contractor, Carol has worked on management teams for conventions with as many as 7,000 attendees, overseeing logistics and registration, among other things. Despite her long and successful work history, she finds the demand for a bachelor's degree in her field getting stronger all the time.

Now a student of Metropolitan State College, Carol is hoping to graduate in May 2013 with a degree in Hospitality, Meeting and Travel Administration (HMTA). "The scholarship makes a lot of difference to me. It gives me inspiration to continue working toward my goal because I know someone else believes in me. Everyone needs a little help to reach their goals in life. The Alliance Foundation scholarship has done just that for me," said Carol.

Nadine Garcia - Junior at Women's College at the University of Denver

Nadine Garcia is a Junior at the Women's College at the University of Denver.  She has been a part-time student studying for her Bachelors degree in Business Administration since 2009.  She is a single mom and is currently employed by the City and County of Denver as an Administrative Support Assistant.

"I am grateful for the Alliance Scholarship.  It is a blessing that enables me to be a better student, better professional, and most of all a better mother.  I feel that the scholarship is an investment in me and I feel a tremendous responsibility to pay it forward," Nadine Garcia, Women’s College at the University of Denver scholarship recipient.

Naomi Hoover - Senior at University of Colorado at Denver

Naomi Hoover is a Senior at the University of Colorado at Denver completing her Bachelor's Degree in Biology.  Along with her studies, Naomi volunteers at the St. Anthony’s Central Hospital and StandUp for Kids.  For many years, Naomi was in an emotionally abusive relationship that deterred her from pursuing her dream of going to medical school.  Naomi found the courage to end this destructive relationship and is now proudly applying to medical school after graduation this spring.

"The Alliance Foundation Scholarship will help me buy books for school and applications to medical school, which I could otherwise not afford.  I am very excited for my upcoming graduation and looking forward to my future medical education.  I am especially excited to be a recipient of the Alliance Foundation scholarship, which will help me achieve both my career and academic goals,"  Naomi Hoover.
